Project 4 - Kaleidoscopes

Description of Project

I created my Kaleidoscopes by cropping an image into a square, making multiple copies of that image, reflecting the images in an appropriate fashion, aligning the pictures together, and lastly cropping that overall photo into a neat round kaleidoscope.

Description of Project

In this project, we took a walking field trip downtown and took photos of objects that we believed best show contrast, whether in color, value, shape, scale, or texture, and objects that show balance, specifically symmetrical, asymmetrical, and radial balance.

I created both of these two grids in Lightroom by editing similar photos, but in a way that gives each of them a different feeling/mood. If you look closely, they mostly consist of the same three photographs, however each look slightly different. Then, I repeated them throughout the grid to create a sense of pattern and rhythm to the grid. Overall, I learned how to work with creating grids and how to tell what images look good together and what images don't.

In this project, we used Lightroom to edit photographs to emphasize specific aspects of color. For instance, we edited the temperature of the pictures to make them appear warmer or cooler. Lastly, we took photos that have specific color properties. In this case, we found photos that have colors that compliment each other well, as well as photos with a monochromatic color scheme.

I used Lightroom to alter the mood of the photographs. As you can see, the photo on the left is much brighter and has a much warmer connotation than the dark photo on the left.

Similar to the other photos above, I altered the mood of these photos by giving the photo on the right a darker and more spookier feel. I purposely intended for the photo on the left to be lighter and appear warmer than the photo on the right.

Framing and Composition 8 Best Photos

Description

I took each of my photos with the intention of matching a specific Framing and Composition Technique. In order from top to bottom, my photos go Bugs Eye View, Birds Eye View, Close Up, Diagonals, Filling the Frame, Leading Lines, Frame Within a Frame, and Rule of Thirds. I learned from this project, how to add value to photos, which ultimately differentiates them from others and makes them more interesting to the human eye. Lastly, I felt these 8 photos were best because I thought they each capture their specific technique incredibly well.

Contact Sheet

Description

Photographers use Contact Sheets to organize and present their images in a systematic way. They don't upload all their photos, just their best ones that capture what kind of artist they are or their specialties. Additionally, Contact Sheets are used to give the audience an idea for what they can expect from an artist's pictures. I created my contact sheet by taking anywhere between 100-150 photos. Then, I deleted the bad ones, edited the best ones, and compiled the best 40 onto one sheet of paper with each of their specific framing and composition technique.

Project 1: Elements and Principles Poster

Description

Over the past few classes, we studied the differences between elements and principles in photography. We defined the different elements found in a photo as well as the different principles. Then, we gathered images online that we thought displayed each of the different elements as well as principles. Lastly, we went out into the field by taking a walking field trip around our school and documented/took photos of things in the real world that we believed displayed these same elements and principles. Personally, I believe that Elements are individual components that create the different Principles. For instance, lines can be used to create rhythm or pattern. After doing this project, I am more aware of the different components in photography that appeal to the eye but might have gone unnoticed without doing research prior.

My Summer

This summer I played a lot of sports and travelled. Throughout June, I participated in our Lincoln Summer Basketball team. We practiced daily, played in tournaments on the weekends, and hosted a week-long youth development camp. Aside from basketball, I spent much of my time, while I was in Portland, playing golf, tennis, swimming, and going on runs. However, for the majority of my summer, I was out of town as I spent two weeks traveling Germany on my own and visiting friends and family. Then, immediately as I returned from Germany, I went to Michigan the next day to spend time with my relatives and celebrate my Grandparent's 60th wedding anniversary. Lastly, from Michigan, my family went straight to New York to visit my other grandmother and travel around the city, of course.
